Hey Lancers!
Editor-in-Chief Laura Dux and Managing Editor Colin Haskins here with another weekly roundup of campus news.
It’s another week with a fresh lineup of stories for you—from racist vandalism in the GM building to a feature on artists using their platforms to address climate change. We also have an in-depth look at how love triangles are being written in modern media, a review of a classic video game collection, and a recap of the latest Lancers volleyball match.
Here’s everything you need to know from around campus:
News
Vandalism that included racist messages was found inside the men’s locker room in the GM building on campus on Tuesday morning by faculty who teach in the building prior to classes starting.
The language of the vandalism was disparaging towards Black people and homeless people but was “non-threatening,” according to PCC Spokesperson Alex Boekelheide.
Because of the content, campus security is investigating the vandalism as a crime.

Opinion
Staff writer Zaynab Tall argues that audiences aren’t tired of the love triangle trope, they’re just often written poorly.
“A good love triangle, if used as the main trope, should make audiences feel conflicted in who they want the main character to end up with. The best way to do this is to give both love interests an equal chance through their time with the main character and unique personalities.”

Features
Read about the artist reception of Oriana Poindexter, whose work “Reflections On Our Warming Planet: Part Three” is currently on display at the V on campus until Sept. 27.
“We wanted to showcase what art can do outside of the art dialogue,” art director Jeffrey B. Cain said. “How it could work with particular issues, scientists, how it could work with questions that are affecting us on a community and global scale.”

Sports
In an action-filled game against the San Diego Mesa women’s volleyball team, the Lancers were able to show no fear against their opponent’s winning streak. However, missed opportunities from PCC resulted in their defeat at the hands of San Diego Mesa by a score of 3-0 on their game on Sep. 11.
The Lancer’s score this season is currently 5-8. Their next game is on Wednesday against Long Beach.

Lifestyle
The days of slotting coins down an arcade machine are long gone. The historic fighting games of the “Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics” have officially reached a new generation of gaming platforms. But is it worth the $50 price tag?
