The Courier Newsletter: Week of September 6, 2024

Hey Lancers!

Laura Dux and Colin Haskins here — we’re your Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor for this semester’s edition of the Courier! We couldn’t be more excited to dive into the latest happenings around campus with you.

Whether you’re back after the summer or just settling in for your first year at PCC, we’ve got the latest news, events, and stories to help you start the year off right.

News

From the News desk, staff writer Lily Regan writes that police are searching for a suspect after a woman was attacked while on the Pasadena City College campus. According to Detective TJ Robins, the victim, who was not a PCC student, was attacked while she was asleep. Both campus and city police are investigating the incident.

Read Lily’s article for all the details.

Opinion

In her latest piece, Opinion Editor Monet Ayala discusses the importance of artists setting boundaries with their fans, drawing on Chappell Roan’s recent pleas for privacy.

“Even in a perfect world with no safety risks involved with fame, Chappell Roan would still have every right to set clear boundaries with her fans. She is a human being who is asking that she be able to clock out of her job and live her life.”

Features

For the first article in our inaugural Club Rush Features series, staff writer Olivia Hail spotlights the revitalized chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) at PCC. Led by students Blanca Navas and Sherlin Hakopian, the club aims to support and promote women in engineering fields, providing a network and resources for aspiring female engineers in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
