The Courier Newsletter: Week of September 11th

In the second week of the semester, The Courier continued it’s efforts to cover the chaotic nature of a college campus. In this weeks edition of the newsletter, the news has the biggest spotlight as we had four different stories come out of the section. One covered the efforts by PCC and the Board of Trustees to find a new permanent Superintendent-President, another story updated PCC on the termination of the Kinesiology Dean and one covered the new student lounge on campus. In addition to our wide news coverage, we had many other interesting stories come out from the rest of the sections, from playlists to poetry to sports.
News
In our featured news story this week, three writers, Seamus Bozeman, Sol Rodriguez and Lucca Camillieri dug into the question: Where did PCC’s previously provided $200 bookstore voucher go? They found some answers from a mostly mute leadership at PCC.
Opinion
In Opinion this week, Editor in Chief Samuel Valencia gives his thoughts on the box office “garbage” that has littered blockbuster releases. Which has lost the interest of movie goers as they demand more from the studios who push sequels and old ideas constantly.
Features
In the first feature of the fall semester staff writer Trina Jaconi-Biery did a wonderful feature on the LAIST “prose bowl” poetry event, where a number of poets from Get Lit, an organization that “empowers” local poets to feature their work.
PCC Sports
In PCC sports coverage this week, from staff writer Clyde Burns, the Women’s Volleyball team beat the visiting Fullerton Hornets in a 3-0 sweep. The Lancers struggled early, but found their rhythm later in the game.
Lifestyle
In Lifestyle this week it was all about music, as new PCC Courier staff writer Ayden Saeki, wrote about PCC students and their music tastes, it ranged from Pink Floyd to Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo. With that information, The Courier created their very own “the sounds of PCC” playlist.
