The Courier Newsletter: Week of October 9th

At The Courier in week six of publication while the world around us and beyond PCC was chaotic, in the newsroom it was a lot of the same: A slog to get stories written and our articles published. In news this week we had a story on campus safety, a story about changes coming to PCC and their composition of academic buildings after the approval of the Facilities Master Plan last year and a story on PCC students opinions about recently signed gun laws in California. For opinion this week, one writer wrote about their experience with student loans, and how it impacts other PCC students. In features this week, there was a story about how the Norton Simon Museum provides free admission on the first Fridays of the Month, another story wrote about the Pasadena Humane Society and an event they hosted to discuss the impacts of urbanism and its intersection with Wildlife. In sports there was one story about PCC’s men’s soccer team and their loss to LA College this past week. In lifestyle there was a number of stories, from Horoscopes for this month, to a review of the new Exorcist movie, Gen V an Amazon show, Drake’s new album, Doja Cat and her satanic controversy and to wrap it up a review of Knott’s Scary Farm and what PCC students thought on the offering. Below is our top stories for the week.

News

In news this week Assistant Social Media editor, Sabrina Farooq wrote a in depth story about campus safety, and what has happened in the past year at PCC. It also discussed the future of PCC’s safety plans and highlights what could be changed.

Opinion

In opinion this week staff writer Laura Dux wrote an OP/ED about the impacts of student loans on both her and other students at PCC. It goes into detail about how students can get deferments if they are enrolled in the California CC system.

Features

In Features this week staff writer Lucca Camillieri wrote about an event hosted by the Pasadena Humane Society that aims to teach the local community about how humans and animals can “live in tandem.” It also featured an overview of the seminars presented by the Pasadena Audubon Society about local bird life in the Pasadena area.

PCC Sports

In sports this week Editor in Chief Samuel Valencia and Assistant Social Media Editor Sabrina Farooq wrote about a sunbaked loss for PCC’s men’s soccer team, in an “uneventful” 1-0 loss.
 

Lifestyle

In lifestyle this week, Sports Editor Le’Raun Peron wrote about the Knott’s Berry Farm, and their 50th anniversary of Knott’s Scary Farm. This includes an overview of what’s offered at Knott’s and the opinions of a few PCC students on the scare factor of the park.

Podcast

Following news of the attack on Israel, hosts David and Sol go over first reactions to the surprise attack carried out by Hamas. What led to the unexpected escalation in the Israel-Palestine conflict and how will this affect the rest of the world?
