The Courier Newsletter: Week of November 6th

At the 11th hour The Courier had content for this week, and almost a whiff on the newsletter and content in your inboxes, but here we are! In news this week The Courier published an article on issues students continue to face with the academic counseling, a new pilot program that brings learning out of the classroom and a story about Metro’s post pandemic recovery and what PCC students think of the local public transit system. In opinion, we only had one story criticizing TikTok’s culture of fast fashion. In features, we celebrated the 30th birthday of the Shatford Library at PCC in an event with keynote speakers, library tours, and other fun things. In sports, we wrote about Lancers volleyball and the end to a disastrous waterpolo season. In lifestyle there was a quick review on local sports bars, and a review of a video game that recently came out. News

In news staff writer Carlos De la Luz dug into the issues that many had been experiencing with Academic Counseling at PCC, and what kind of issues PCC is up against in providing these services to students.

Opinion

In opinion, staff writer Odessa Hairapetian wrote about the frustrations she had with how TikTok has built a culture of fast fashion with the constant influx and decline of new trends every few months. However, TikTok is extremely beneficial to the entire industry as many get to very successfully promote their products on the platform to a very diverse audience.

Features

In features, Managing Editor David Sosa covered the 30th birthday of PCC’s library, A celebration with the library staff, administrators, the Superintendent-President. An important highlight in PCC’s role in providing a quality education to their students and a study place and access to resources to further their learning experiences at PCC.

PCC Sports

In sports staff writer Lucca Camillieri wrote about the closing to a disastrous season for PCC’s Water Polo team, where they finished a dismal 0-12. The story includes interviews from several players and the coach on what went awry.

Lifestyle

In lifestyle, Lifestyle Editor Sol Rodriguez wrote a review for several local bars that can fulfill your game-day needs, whether that’s a good drink or food to keep your eyes and belly rooting for your favorite team.

Podcast

After taking a brief hiatus, hosts David and Sol talk about the struggles of seeking validation. Who do we seek validation from, and why? Topics include showing responsibility to your boss, not socializing at a community college, and wanting validation from strangers.
