The Courier Newsletter: Week of April 1st

Welcome to week 6 of the newsletter folks. We are moving right along with our semester, and are coming up on spring break, where we plan to publish at least some content, so there will be a newsletter for week 8 of the semester. This week we covered a lot of lifestyle, and a few other things, guess our writers were feeling the style. In news, we did our weekly police reports (Blotter) and answered: What the heck is up with the abandon parking lot to the Northwest of PCC’s main campus? In Opinion, writers discussed antisemitism, corporate media, and un-paid internships versus paid internships. In Features we wrote about overbearing landlords (and Measure H advocates), and an event featuring the President of the United Farm Workers at PCC. In lifestyle writers reviewed just about everything, from music, video games, best local places to see the wildflowers this spring and recent TV shows. In sports, writers covered a swim meet and the continued struggles that have beset the Lancers Softball team. And on the podcast, we welcomed trustee-elect Ryan Liu to the podcast to talk about student involvement in politics. Read all of this and everything we’ve published at pcccourier.com

Have a great week folks, we will see you next time. It’s always great to hear from you on your thoughts about the newsletter, so leave them here as we begin a transition to new newsletter writers. Fill out the form, here.

News

In News, Staff Writer Michael Macchia, wrote about the lot near PCC’s main campus that has sat empty for the last several years, and has what many student’s who use the nearby bus stop criticizing the fence for being ‘ugly’ and giving off ‘creepy abandon vibes.’ The scoop was pretty basic, but hopefully answers some questions about that dingy lot and if it will ever become a hotel…

Opinion

In Opinion, Co-Social Media Editor Laura Dux wrote about how internships should always be PAID, and that un-paid internships should no longer be a consideration for companies. This comes from someone who currently writes for the Courier, and has a part-time and a paid internship to get by and couldn’t imagine being in an unpaid position. Read the entire perspective below.

Features

In Features, Video Editor Dante Estrada and Assistant News Editor Sabrina Farooq wrote a story on Pasadena’s Tenants Union and their past fight with Measure H and their current struggles in the fight for the wellbeing of renters. Read this story in full below.
