The Courier Newsletter: Week of April 15th

Welcome to week eight of the Courier newsletter, and spring break! Hope everyone had a restful break and a chance to do nothing for a few minutes. This week the Courier went and saw ‘Civil War’ as a group, with a review coming next week (keep your eyes out for that.) We will also be sharing some old content to fill certain spots over the next week or so to cover the gaps of a slower production schedule following spring break, but check out pcccourier.com for all the fresh content we do have.

We did release the second part in the series of articles following last week’s news of the four finalists in the Superintendent-President search, as News Editor’s Seamus Bozeman and Sabrina Farooq interviewed three of the candidates following their presentations Wednesday, April 10. (With various other newsworthy tidbits.)

Like last week and until the newsletter is being produced by other Courier writers, we will be continually asking for feedback and you to fill out our form here.

Enjoy your weekend and see you next week folks! And good luck in the final eight weeks of the semester.

News

In News, Assistant Video Editor Katherine Poling covers an event hosted by PCC’s Caduceus Club as part of a wider effort to reduce the number of drug related overdoses by educating people on how to administer Naloxone. The club also brings in nurses from Huntington Hospital to comment on the wider epidemic and its local and ever increasing prevalence in Pasadena.

Opinion

In Opinion, Staff Writer Mercedes Rodriquez wrote last week about Trump and the reverence that he has created among his voter base. However, it focuses more on arguing against the notion that just because his base is full of religious ideals, (or their version of it) despite the fact that according to the author none of their ideals actually align with the fundamentals of the Bible. Read the full opinion below.

Features

In Features, Staff Writer Gabriel Novoa wrote about PCC’s recent orchestra performance, that through music traveled from east to west and back again, in an exploration of classical music through space and time. The story also includes quotes from the conductor and a wider reflection of classical music in the world today.

PCC Sports

In Sports, Staff Writer Michael Macchia continued the excellent coverage of Badminton’s “perfect season” in a game from last week. Despite their challenges with injury, the team continues to dominate. Since the publication of this article the team continues to smash opponents, winning their past two games 21-0 and 19-2 respectively. With those wins they also officially clinch their spot in the playoffs in the South Coast Conference Championship and State Championships.

Lifestyle

In Lifestyle, Staff Writer Kelly Ly wrote about the Amazon Prime Video series based on the video game with the same name: “Fallout.” The writer, said that the series is everything that should be expected when modeling itself after the video game following the prototypical “nuclear wastelands, cynical humor, jazzy music, ominous mutants, and bloody violence.”
